About Me

I am Lori Ross, retired educator, wife, and mom. I earned my Bachelor's degree many years ago in Elementary Education/Reading. For the past 26 years I have taught mostly primary and elementary grade students in the public school system. I was blessed to spend thirteen of those years teaching first grade in a very diverse suburban school district and in a school with a large population of very diverse learners.

Many years into my teaching career, I became very excited about using technology in the classroom with my students, so I returned to grad school and received a Master's in Education/Curriculum and Instruction/Educational Technology.

I ended my tenure teaching K-2 Science in the same school, a wonderful and welcomed transition from the regular classroom. Consequently, my last three years of teaching were by far my most rewarding and enjoyable years. (I highly recommend challenging yourself to teach something completely different for your last few years of teaching. It was one of the best decisions I think I've ever made).

As I was considering retirement several years prior to actually retiring, I decided that I would want to continue working in education after retirement, still making a difference in the lives of young children. True to my word, upon retiring and relocating to a new state, I immediately looked forward to working closely with children, just not as a classroom teacher. I now assist teachers in their classrooms working one-on-one and in small groups with children, serving mainly ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. What makes this experience so much more rewarding is that I get to work with students but do not have the responsibility of the paperwork, ongoing assessment, and everything else that goes along with being a regular classroom teacher. Moreover, having the respect of the teachers in the building as a retired teacher also makes this the coolest job any educator can have; the teachers truly value my presence, input, along with the broad experience that I bring to their classrooms. That feels so good!

In addition, I have always enjoyed creating educational materials to use in my classroom, and to share with other teachers as well. I have created this blog, Your Teacher Assistant, to share very relevant educational resources, tips, and tools that every primary and elementary teacher can use.
Be sure to visit this blog and my TpT store with the same name often to find many fun English/Language Arts, and Math ideas, resources, and materials aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the (VA) Standards of Learning (SOL). You will find Interactive Smart Board lessons and activities, games, classroom resources, and much more!
I absolutely love using technology with students, so you can be sure to find plenty of my latest technology "finds" I'm sure you will love as well.

Also, be sure to visit my other blog--Mrs. Ross's Science Class--mainly designed for primary science teachers. You can get all of the cool science related materials that I talk about on that blog at my TpT store with the same name.

Thank you for visiting my newest blog, designed with every primary and elementary teacher in mind. I hope you enjoy it and as always, I welcome your input.
